MEMORIES are made of this:
A lazy afternoon at the lake, with Dad at the grill or steaming clams, the diving raft bobbing up and down with teenage swimmers and smaller kids rowing the little orange boat around the shallow waters.
Or a Sunday afternoon at the farm, with Grampa Thomas entertaining and toddlers swaying to the beat of the old fiddler’s tunes. A fruit punch bowl would be on the kitchen table, with the dining room table laden with grandma's rolls, CC's meatballs, Aunt Betty's scalloped oysters, and more.
Playing softball in the backyard in Bloomfield with the neighborhood kids (and maybe Mom or Dad), or a scavenger hunt from the room at the back of that big house - an item on the list one year was 'a teacher' and a few teachers came back to join the party.
A memory that always warms our hearts is that of
Dad when he opened his eyes and saw a picture of
his family, enlarged, laminated, and hung from the
ceiling over his bed at Duke University Medical
Center's ICU. Thank you, Bill, for the joy that gave
your Dad.
Our little dog, Charlie, was an entertainer, too. So many funny things he did to amuse Dad - he would dash across the deck - on three legs - and LEAP from the top of the steps to the ground, then race around the pool and repeat his round.
Our memories are endless and they will warm our hearts through the years ahead.
Love and memories to all of my family,
Gram
